Varela Senior High School has two programs within Health Science, Nursing and Dental.
The Nursing Assisting Program provides students with a curriculum that will prepare them for a career in the Nursing Industry. The end result of the four year program is to be certified in various program areas such as Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Electrocardiogram Aide (EKG), and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMMA). They will also become CPR Certified (learn basic life support). Students in the nursing program will be offered the opportunity to work hands-on with patients at local medical facilities during the school day.
The Dental Assisting Program provides students with quality educational training and prepare students for the theoretical and practical applications of a career as a certified dental assistant. The program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of theory, laboratory, and clinical experience. The program aims to teach students skills related to both content knowledge and leadership and human relations necessary for success in the field.
