The Global Studies Magnet Program at Felix Varela Senior High School aims to advance students’ understanding of and appreciation for global connections and teach the concepts and tools to think critically, solve international problems, and work cross-culturally.

  • School-within-a-school setting: Global Studies students take Humanities and Global English I classes as a cohort, building relationships and friendships
  • Learn about and help solve international problems through critical and cross-cultural thinking
  • Engage in competitions like Model United Nations, EuroChallenge, Geography Bee, and History Bee
  • Participate in field trips designed to teach students the political, social, cultural, environmental, and economic history of Miami and the state of Florida
  • Choose electives in Standard Track or AP Track
  • Electives include International Relations, Holocaust & Contemporary History, Psychology, African American History & Multicultural Studies, and AP Comparative Politics

Global Studies Requirements:

  • 2.0 unweighted GPA in core courses
  • 2.0 average GPA in conduct
  • No more than 10 unexcused absences or 20 tardies in the previous year
