Students in this program become fluent in a new computer programming language, learn the latest technology using hardware PCs and VR headsets, and create their own video games.

Unity is the leading content-creation platform for AR/VR, real-time 3D, and mobile 2D. Unity is used by students and professionals around the world to create everything from games to movies, 3D models to VR simulations.

The Unity Certified User (UCU) certification is an entry-level credential that allow individuals to get started in interactive content creation for industries such as gaming, entertainment, automotive, AEC, and XR. Unity Certified User certification helps employers and institutions verify a candidate’s knowledge and skills using Unity technology to succeed in these industries. Whether it’s a desire to create games and apps or build new worlds in AR/VR, Unity Certified User certification is the place to start.

Game & Simulation Foundations

The Foundations course focuses on basic knowledge of gaming design standards and careers.  Students are introduced to computer programming using the Visual Studio IDE as well as basic game design using the Unity Engine.  Students will learn from hands-on experiences designing their first game.

Game & Simulation Design

The Design course focuses on asset creation using the industry-standard software Blender.  Students will learn the fundamentals of 3D modeling, texturing, and animation, as well as standard workflows and pipelines for creating and importing assets from Blender to Unity.

Game & Simulation Programming

The Programming course focuses on introducing higher-level programming concepts and the development of more sophisticated gameplay mechanics.

Multi User Game Simulation Programming

In this course, we dive into the world of Virtual Reality. Students will learn how to develop applications for Virtual Reality devices using the Unity engine. Our labs are stocked with VR headsets from Oculus, one of the pioneering companies to develop VR headsets for developers.

AP Capstone Requirements:

  • 2.5 unweighted GPA in core courses
  • 2.0 average GPA in conduct
  • No more than 10 unexcused absences or 20 tardies in the previous year
  • Honors Physical Science
  • Honors Algebra I

**Students can earn Honors Algebra I and Honors Physical Science credits on Florida Virtual School. In order to meet eligibility requirements, please mail (varelamagnet@gmail.com) or fax (305-386-8987) proof of registration from the FLVS to Felix Varela Senior High School.
