Enchanters perform at school pep rallies, dance shows and compete at several dance competitions throughout the school year. Through the organization there are opportunities for scholarships to local universities to pursue a career in education. FFA Y.Escobar 307 The Varela Chapter of the FFA Organization is an intercurricular student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. It is one of three components of agricultural education. All Varela FFA members are also members of the Florida and National FFA Organization. French J.Garcia 53 The French club is an interest club with a “French twist”. Acquire leadership and team work skills while making friends. GSA Morales 183 Felix Varela’s Gay Straight Alliance is an organization of LGBTQ youth and their allies. Our goal as an organization is to raise awareness of LGBT issues in our community. At Felix Varela Senior High our Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica proudly upholds and adheres to the high academic success our student members achieve in our Spanish classes and promote interest in Hispanic studies. Thespians Almaguer 317 The Felix Varela Thespian honor society is designed for students who are truly interested in the inner workings of theatre. These students participate in a variety of district competitions and attend multiple workshops throughout the school year. Thespians are also heavily involved in our school productions, both on and off the stage. In addition, Thespians are in charge of running all events in the auditorium. This gives them the opportunity to master their skills on a variety of tech positions in the theatre. The Thespian Honor Society runs on a point system, where points are awarded for continued involvement in the Arts. Students who earn 10 points are eligible for induction into the International Thespians Honor Society. The Thespians of Felix Varela (TROUPE 6162) become a tight knit group throughout the year working tirelessly towards a common goal Tri M Lussier 324 Tri-M is an Music Honor Society recognized world-wide (in 15 Countries) with 1700 Total Chapters and over 67,000 members. Tri-M advocates for the importance and value of Music Education in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. It also motivates students to make a difference in their community. At Varela our Tri-M chapter is dedicated to serving younger musicians in our feeder program, the elderly and disabled in our community, and our veterans through performances, masterclasses, and lessons. Viewfinders Lorenzo-Guerra 200K The Viewfinders (WVHS News) Club is an interest club open to students who have an interest in television or film. Whether it’s working in front of the cameras or behind the scenes operating cameras, producing, editing or directing, there is something for everyone.Club members videotape after school events such as athletic events, talent shows, performances and dances. Their work is featured on the WVHS News broadcast and on the Vipers in Motion Senior Memories DVD. Member take part in several fundraisers throughout the year. Eligible members may participate in District, State and National conventions in the field of news, television and film.Women of Tomorrow Lewis 256 Women of Tomorrow is about women helping women and its program model is unique and effective — highly accomplished professional women meet with small groups of ‘at-risk’ girls in public high schools once a month to discuss ways to overcome obstacles and to provide skills for success.
