I direct the Band of Mystery Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Jazz Band, Beginning Band, Chorus, and teach Dual-Enrollment (FIU) Music Appreciation and Evolution of Jazz. I have been a professional musician for 39 years, and a music educator for 27. I have a Bachelor of Arts (Concentration Music) from the University of Ottawa, a Master of Music (Studio Jazz Writing) from the University of Miami, and a Doctor of Education (Curriculum & Instruction/Instructional Leadership) from Florida International University. I served a total of 12 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a trumpet player, pianist, and arranger.

I am the former Director of Jazz Studies at Jacksonville State University (Alabama) & Florida International University; and the former Director of Instrumental Music at the Academy of Arts and Minds Charter High School.

My experience is extensive in the music industry from Professional-Commercial Performances (Trumpet), to Theater-Classical ensembles, National-International Performances, Military ensembles, Professional Jazz-Dance Orchestras, sound recordings and research.

I am proudly serving in my 9th year here at Varela and I will continue to do my best to raise the quality of the Varela Music Program to new heights.
